Have you recently been denied life insurance coverage due to your health history?

It can be incredibly disheartening to take the responsible step of planning for your family's future, only to receive a rejection letter. Many people mistakenly believe that one denial means they are completely uninsurable. Fortunately, that simply isn't true. The life insurance market is vast, and finding a policy is often just a matter of matching your unique health profile with the right carrier. Different insurance companies view medical risks differently. While one carrier might strictly decline applicants with diabetes or heart issues, another might specialize in those exact conditions. When it comes to final expense insurance (often called burial insurance), the underwriting process is specifically designed to be accessible for seniors and those with health challenges.

If you have pre-existing conditions, you generally have two main pathways to secure coverage:

1. Simplified Issue Final Expense Insurance- If your health conditions are relatively well-managed, this is often the best starting point. *How it works: There are no invasive medical exams or blood tests. You simply answer a short questionnaire about your medical history. *The benefits: Because insurers verify your answers using a prescription history check, the approval process is very fast. More importantly, many pre-existing conditions are accepted, and if approved, you often receive immediate "day-one" coverage with no waiting period.

2. Guaranteed Issue Final Expense Insurance- If you have severe or very recent health complications that disqualify you from simplified issue policies, guaranteed issue plans act as a reliable safety net. * How it works: There are absolutely no health questions and no medical exams. As long as you meet the age requirements, your acceptance is guaranteed. *What to know: Because the insurer accepts you without knowing your medical history, these policies include a "graded death benefit" (usually a two-year waiting period). If you pass away during this time, your beneficiaries won't receive the full coverage amount, but they will receive a full refund of the premiums you paid, plus interest (typically around 10%).

Finding the Right Fit A denial is just a detour, not a dead end. Instead of guessing which carrier will accept your medical history, working with an independent agency allows you to shop the market. At AP Hawkins Insurance, we understand the nuances of different carriers and can guide you toward the best possible coverage—without the stress of another rejection.
